Listening Lately: Dead By Wednesday, Hosemen, and Metal Swim 2

Metal-Swim-2

Lots of great things are going on in the underground music scene recently, both in AltCtrl’s home state of Connecticut and on a national level.  One of the Nutmeg State’s longest-running metal bands, Dead By Wednesday, has just released a self-titled album via Combat Records, EMP Label Group, and Mindsnap Music.  The twelve tracks shift gears between tough-guy anthems, elegies for failed relationships, and considerations of the human condition.  DBW will be taking their aural aggression on the road later this month, playing a string of cross-country dates with Flotsam and Jetsam.

Hosemen is another Connecticut act that keeps pushing, and they’ve just released a video for “Hollow Man” off their recent album Saturday Night ConformitySNC took the long-running project of Anthony Quinn Carpanzano to new heights, and this video showcases the scene they’re coming from.  Inquiring minds want to know: how many times did bassist Brien Adams fall off that skateboard during filming??

And last but not least, Adult Swim has just released the compilation Metal Swim 2, showcasing tracks from Eyehategod and Baroness alongside emerging bands including Vile Creature, Dreadnought, and more.  The streaming-only comp was curated by Laura Sterritt and features iconic artwork by Becky Cloonan.  Check it out and let us know your favorite track!
