Nerd Talk with KAVORKA

Check out this Nerd Talk coming to us all the way from Iceland!  Haukur Már Guðmundsson, lead vocalist and lyricist of rock band Kavorka, shares his nerdy favorites with us.  Although Haukur describes himself as “not much of a reader,” it turns out that both his book recommendations were reviewed on this site over the years!  Plus, columnist Christopher Baldwin interviewed one of the authors.  Great minds think alike….  Or something…

Favorite Movie:

I would say The Big Lebowski by the Coen Brothers. I´ve seen it probably a hundred times and it never gets boring, it never fails to make me laugh. Every scene is just fantastic and the dialogue throughout the whole movie is absolutely brilliant. I probably have around fifty favorite quotes from it. Jeff Bridges as The Dude is amazing, so is John Goodman as Walter and Steve Buscemi as Donny, and you know, everyone is just at the top of their game here, honestly. Brilliant characters and flawless acting. My favorite scene is when The Dude is trying to explain to the other Lebowski in the limo that he dropped off the ransom money, and that he has discovered that Bunny Lebowski kidnapped herself. Just go watch that scene on YouTube if you haven’t seen the movie and thank me later.

Favorite Video Game:

Oh man, that´s a hard one. I’ve been playing video games since I was a kid and I do consider myself a “gamer.” But if I had to choose one, I would probably say The Last of Us. Fucking intense game, man. The story is pure genius, and I don’t know how many hours it took me to finish it, but I do know that there was not one second of it where I thought “this is getting kind of boring.” It kept me on the edge of my seat the whole time. I remember at the end of the game, when the credits rolled, I just sat on my couch and stared at the screen, completely in awe. And I’m not even exaggerating, man. It’s really that good. Also, The Last of Us Part II  is coming out this May, and I am fucking ready.

Favorite Book:

I don’t really have a favorite book, I´m not much of a reader, honestly. I read a lot as a kid and during my early teenage years, but then high school kind of took that passion away from me. The last two books I read were Official Truth, 101 Proof: The Inside Story of Pantera by Rex Brown and Snakes! Guillotines! Electric Chairs! My Adventures in the Alice Cooper Group by Dennis Dunaway. I enjoyed both of them.

Kavorka’s debut full-length, Internal Rituals, is a gritty tale of mental illness and substance abuse.  Check it out below.
